Zomato one of the premier lifestyle portals in India has recently introduced ticket bookings for its special events section with an initial focus on New Year parties. when it comes to the events section it was launched in September 2011, catering to events in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune, and now claims to have ticketing for approximately 500 upcoming events across these multi cities, with around 175,000 tickets on offer at 30 venues in each. The zomato company says that translates to over 40 crores of ticket inventory online, and it isn’t planning to charge any “convenience charge” to its customers.

The zomato Restaurant guide section presently serves ten major cities in India those are as follows: Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, Jaipur and Chandigarh. The zomato website now lists more than 18,000 restaurants and featured menus for restaurants listed on the website. According to recent press reports, Zomato claims that it gets more than a million customers on its website.

Introducing an online ticketing platform, Zomato is going to enter in the events booking territory which is basically dominated by Bookmyshow.com, and given that the New Year parties catch the attention of significant interest, this would be a way of gauging demand for events among its user base of 2 million visitors every month. But the thing is that to keep in mind is that those users are coming for its restaurant guide section, to which it intends to cross-sell event tickets. People wonder why Zomato hasn’t yet launched a table booking business, or online food orders like Just Eat and Bookurtable since that would have been logical as well. Perhaps this is a pioneer. Zomato claims to have listings for over 20,000 restaurants across 10 Indian cities and more than 10 Lakh monthly users.
